1st Annual Build it Green Bozeman!
Update!! Many of you asked for a summary of each of the homes and what they offered in terms of sustainable design and who were the architects and contractors behind it all. We've compiled a document with info provided for each house. Click here to view the document. Thanks again for your attendance!
Refuge has teamed up with the USGBC Montana Chapter and Slabworks of Montana to launch the First Annual Build It Green Bozeman Sustainable Homes Tour, giving participants an intimate look into five extraordinary
green-built homes in and around Bozeman. Leaving Refuge by bus at 1pm on Sunday, October 23, the tour will lead nearly 50 people through local homes showcasing a broad range of sustainable technologies and construction techniques. At each stop, participants will have an opportunity to discuss that home’s sustainable attributes with the homeowners and green building experts, gaining an understanding of the reasoning behind sustainable investments and the benefits each homeowner enjoys as a result. Perhaps more importantly, tour participants will be able to capture lessons learned that they may be to apply to their own efforts to reduce their ecological footprints.
The homes on the tour range from a 100-year-old remodel to new construction, including one that is still being built. These structures demonstrate a range of the construction styles employed to meet energy efficiency goals. The five eco-built homes on this year’s Build It Green Bozeman tour and their attributes are:
The Lewendal Residence: 100-year-old certified energy star house (the only one in the U.S.), photovoltaic panels, high-efficiency boiler system
The Rehau Montana Ecosmart House: geothermal ground loop heat exchange, web-based climate controls, solar thermal and solar photovoltaic panels
The Pohl Residence: LEED Gold Certified
The Hops Residence: LEED Platinum target, high performance building envelope (SIPs panels), solar thermal hot water and space heat
The All American Home: need we say more?
