Lindley Residence

Architect: Zimtor
Builder: Dearborn River Construction

The homeowners were very interested in a straw bale house. "Many issues arise when planning that route. The Durisol was the closest we could come to the things we wanted from the straw bale. A permeable house (breathable walls), thick walls with high R-value, and thermal mass. Ultimately, a healthy house (relative chemical free or inert). In some ways the Durisol turned out to be much more what we were after when we were exploring straw bale. The thermal mass is something to experience. Our house is cozy warm in the winter and it is almost cold in the summer (we often get the comment that we have air conditioning--when our windows are open to warm up the house a little). Our energy bills are amazingly low. The credit for that goes to a well designed envelope and the choice of Durisol for the walls. Our walls breathe, the Durisol is a fantastic substrate for stucco, and ultimately, the whole thing is more or less maintenance free."
